I am a huge fan (some would say fanatic) about researching and following the meaning of Google’s logo. I am also looking for blog ideas for Tim Judd (CEO of eLocallisting) and I to write about, so you can imagine my surprise when I launched Google and found a drawing of a birthday cake by Wayne Thiebaund as their logo. What, had I been wrong when on September 7th I asked Tim to post birthday wishes to Google? This required some investigation.
First, I found a site that had Google’s Logo for the last 7 years … so I thought it might be fun to post them.
and 12 again!
So what day is actually Google’s birthday? Well it seems that Google’s official birthday is disputed: some declare the company was born on September 15th 1997, the day the Google.com domain was registered. (did you know that they first registered backrub.com) or maybe it is when Google filed for incorporation in September 1998: the papers were filed on September 4th, but Google has been known to celebrate on both September 7th and September 27th.
To explain the inconsistency, the company's FAQ once famously read: Google opened its doors in September 1998. The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake.
Got to love Google, only they can decide when to celebrate their birthay and celebrate it twice in one month. Now this supports my belief that December is definitely going to be my birthday MONTH!
Here at MyLocally we would like to wish Google a happy birthday for the second time this month.
Happy Birthday to the talented team at Google - It’s September – Let Them Eat Cake!
