Louisiana joined the Union in 1812 after the famous Louisiana purchase of 1804, making it America’s 18th state to join the union. Louisiana was named after King Louis XIV of France, and French is commonly spoken in much of the state. Louisiana is largely an agriculturally based state; primarily rooted in seafood. It is the world’s largest supplier of crawfish.
Lousiana's most famous city is New Orleans, which is experiencing a re-growth after being devestated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
