Kentucky joined the United States in 1792 after it broke off from Virginia. Known as the “Bluegrass State” because of its luscious blue grass which can be found on much of the fertile land in the state, much of Kentucky’s land is devoted to the breeding of the highest-quality livestock. Kentucky breeds particularly good race horses, which should be no surprise to anyone familiar with the Kentucky Derby.
Many famous people hail from Kentucky; among them is Abraham Lincoln.
