About District of Columbia

Show District of Columbia some love

The District of Columbia, recognized as the hub of our nation both historically and certainly politically, is fascinating from many points of view. Consider the lay out of its capital city Washington, designed by a Frenchman, Pierre L’Enfant, and a self taught African-American mathematical genius Benjamin Banneker. L'Enfant designed Washington to celebrate the principles of freedom and growth which the nation had recently fought over, and the boundaries of the entire District of Columbia are based on the celestial calculations of Mr. Bannecker.

Formed along the Potomac River, The District hosts the centers for all three branches of the U.S. government. The unique city of Washington has a resident population of just over 600,000; and grows to over one million during the work week. There are certainly many reasons to appreciate D.C., its history, origins, and political value being but just a few.
